What we do

What is the Parent Council?

The Parent Council brings parents and carers together to work with school leaders, teachers and staff. We represent families’ views and help improve the educational experience of all children at Grazebrook.

We provide a platform for opinions, concerns and suggestions about school policies, everyday practices and how the school works for families. Our aim is a positive, inclusive school community that meets the needs of every child.

Key Functions

1. Communication: We provide a link between families and the school, bringing parents’ perspectives to staff and sharing important school information with parents.

2. Advocacy: We make sure parents’ and pupils’ voices are heard in discussions about the curriculum, school improvement and policies. We work constructively with the school to support positive change.

3. Collaboration: We work with staff and the Parent Staff Association (PSA) on initiatives that support learning, wellbeing and community involvement. This can include events, fundraising and volunteering.

Structure and Membership

The council has two parent volunteers (representatives) for each year group, alongside a cross-year SEND & Inclusion Parent Representative. Together, they bring families’ perspectives to discussions with the school.

All parents and carers are encouraged to share their views through their year-group representatives. We welcome different backgrounds and experiences so the council reflects our whole school community.

How to use your council

The council meets with the headteacher three times a year, once each term, to discuss the items on the agenda.

1. Send your feedback before the deadline

Contact your year-group representative, use the feedback page or email us.

Please submit items by the stated deadline. Once the deadline has passed and the meeting slides are being prepared, additional feedback will be carried forward to the next meeting.

Your representative can help you share feedback if you cannot use the online form.

2. The chair and headteacher prepare the agenda

The chair meets with the headteacher to review all items raised by parents. They identify issues already being addressed and those needing a direct response from the headteacher. The remaining items form the agenda, and the headteacher prepares slides for the full council meeting.

3. The council meets and reports back

The council discusses the agenda with the headteacher. Following each formal meeting, the headteacher will share the completed slides with the Parent Council. The slides will then be available here and shared with the respective year groups.
